Country grit meets queer storytelling
Charlie Mtn. is the new name on the marquee for John-Allison Weiss.
With the help of a devoted community, the seasoned singer/songwriter and relentless road dawg crowdfunded their first album as Charlie Mtn. and now they’re headig out on tour, bringing heartfelt, roadworn storytelling to stages across the country as direct support on Mal Blum's The Villain tour.
Band Bio
Charlie Mtn. is the country/folk project from queer songwriter and longtime DIY trailblazer John-Allison Weiss. Known for gritty, melodic, emotion-driven songwriting, Weiss first made waves in the late 2000s, building a devoted underground following with honest, anthemic songs and a relentless tour ethic. Over the years, they’ve shared stages with artists like The Front Bottoms, Laura Jane Grace, Letters to Cleo, and Lou Reed (yeah, that Lou Reed) while releasing genre-defiant music that bridges punk vulnerability and pop sensibility.
Now, under the name Charlie Mtn., they’re channeling that same spirit into something twangier, queer country with a cinematic streak. In 2020, Weiss gave up a married life in Los Angeles, moved into a truck and trailer, and hit the road full-time with their cat, Mouse. That cross-country, off-grid life, equal parts solitude and adventure, has shaped the sound and stories of this next chapter.
Fueled by community support, they just spent all of May crowdfunding and recording the debut Charlie Mtn. full-length album. Now they're hitting the road again on tour in July/August/September as solo support on Mal Blum’s The Villain tour. Fans can expect a stripped-down, lyric-forward set packed with country storytelling and radical queer joy.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Charlie Mtn. joins Mal Blum on The Villain Tour this summer
Queer country is crashing the indie rock party.
Charlie Mtn., the new country project from queer trans trailblazer John-Allison Weiss, is hitting the road this summer in support of longtime bestie Mal Blum. The two artists have been sharing stages and friendship bracelets for over a decade, and now they’re reuniting for The Villain Tour—a nationwide run celebrating Blum’s brand-new album The Villain, their first full-length release since their voice change and already being hailed as their best work yet.
Mal Blum’s signature blend of sharp songwriting and raw indie rock energy anchors the night, while Charlie Mtn. opens each show with a stripped-down set of heartfelt, twang-tinged songs that put queer storytelling front and center. Expect big feelings, tender harmonies, and lots of laughter from two artists who know how to bring a room together.
Fans are encouraged to channel their own Villain Era and dress to impress. This tour promises to be a celebration of chosen family, community, and queer joy—don’t miss it.
